Terrapin Point, Niagara Falls, NY
Terrapin Point is an observation area at the Niagara Falls on the New York side. The area used to be called the Terrapin Rocks because the rocks looked like terrapins (a type of tortoise or turtle). In the 1980's it was blocked off and 400 ft of the Horseshoe falls was blasted away for safety and to build diversion dams and retaining walls.
It is a great place to see the falls and perfect if you don't like the crowds and heavy traffic on the Canadian side. We did a lot of walking on the paths around Goat Island. It's a great place to bring the kids for a picnic or just to spend the afternoon looking at one of the natural wonders of the world.
