Birdland Jazz Club NYC Road Trip
On our last road trip to NYC I wanted to stop and see the Birdland Jazz Club. We didnt have time to stop for dinner or hear any jazz but we know where it s for next time. When the Birdland originally opened in 1949 on Broadway, a block west of 52nd street, Charlie Parker was the headliner. Charlie was known as “Bird” and thus the club got its name. Other performers included Count Basie and his smokin’ big band, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, Lester Young, Erroll Garner, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bud Powell, and more.
